Highlights

  • It features a mattress cover fine-tuned for optimum breathability and heat dissipation.
  • The mattress’ reinforced edges increase its sturdiness and create more sleep space
  • Its memory foam and steel coil combination is excellent for body contouring and spinal alignment.

The Cocoon Chill Hybrid is one of the best Tempurpedic alternatives, giving Tempurpedic mattresses a run for their money. This mattress offers value for money as it is cheaper than similar Leesa, Saatva, and Tempurpedic models.

One of the mattress’ most notable features is how it blends the cradling properties of memory foam with the sturdiness of innerspring products. Its construction allows the mattress to offer a healthy amount of sinkage and support vital to pain relief and user comfort.

In addition, the mattress is adept at temperature regulation as it exudes an always-cool surface, even while in use. I look out for potential like this in mattress because it’s ideal for sleepers who tend to run hot at night and ensures that they wake up feeling more rested and restored.. Overall, the Cocoon Chill Hybrid combines the soft feel of a Tempur-pedic foam mattress with good body support for a balanced sleep experience.

Runner Up — Puffy

Puffy Mattress Review

Highlights:

  • works for any sleeper type thanks to medium firmness;
  • proprietary materials that retain less heat;
  • hypoallergenic and dust mite-resistant cover.

Next up on my list of the best Tempurpedic mattresses is the Puffy mattress. The main thing that makes the Puffy a top-rated Tempurpedic alternative is its excellent compatibility with active sleepers. The Puffy can minimize the movement disturbances and ensure that you sleep soundly even if you allow all your pets to jump on your bed when you sleep or if your bedmate is restless.

But that’s not it.

Along with having medium firmness, the Puffy also takes care of the microclimate in your bed. The mattress features proprietary materials that adjust to your body temperature changes, so you can sleep blissfully throughout the year.

Once you lie on the Puffy, the mattress will conform to your body curves and keep the spine in its natural position regardless of the sleeping style you prefer. So, if you have some pain issues, this mattress can be your ally on your way to recovery and relief.

Overall, I was impressed by the qualities of the Puffy mattress. It has a good hug, doesn’t sleep hot, and effectively absorbs all the motions from the other side of the bed, thus ensuring your peaceful sleep.

Best Budget Option - Nectar

Nectar Memory Foam Mattress

Click the button below to check current price Check Current Price

Highlights:

  • It has an adaptive memory foam layer that contours the hips, shoulder, spine, and other body parts for pain relief.
  • Its base layer helps increase stability and counter the restrictive feeling of memory foam.
  • The mattress uses gel-infused memory foam for optimizing breathability and ensuring cool rest.

The Nectar memory foam mattress is a good Tempurpedic alternative for mattress shoppers on a budget because it costs about $1,000 less than the cheapest model of the Tempur Adapt mattress and yet feels similar to the cradling feel of the Tempurpedic foam mattress. This mattress has a thermoregulation feature that combines the cooling feel of gel memory foam with a sweat-wicking mattress cover, ensuring you get to sleep through the night without running hot.

The memory foam layer of the Nectar mattress is similar to what the Tempurpedic Adapt mattress offers. The Nectar mattress provides adaptive cushioning that will hug your hip and shoulder region and help with back pain relief and muscle relaxation. This can be especially helpful if you appreciate the feel of a cozy mattress, but not just that, you also get good body weight support needed for restorative sleep.

Best Cooling Mattress - Eight Sleep Pod 3

Highlights:

  • The mattress foam layers are breathable and adept at thermoregulation for all-around coolness.
  • You can customize the mattress' coolness to match your temperature preference.
  • This mattress syncs with smartphones via WiFi for a faster data transfer and provides you with information how to improve sleep quality.

Apart from airy mattress layers, the Eight Sleep Pod 3 has a hydro-duct system that runs under the mattress cover for a more effective cooling effect. And to better help hot sleepers, the mattress is also breathable to ensure that there’s no body heat retention.

In addition, I think that the Pod 3 mattress works for pressure relief with its adaptive memory foam layer. It also has an innerspring layer that provides lumbar support for spine alignment. This combination ensures you get the proper amount of cradling and stability you need for a relaxing rest.

Another feature I liked about the Pod 3 mattress is how you can track your sleep with its sensor technology, unlike the Winkbed, Puffy, and Nectar models. This can be good for busy sleepers as the mattress will give you updates on your sleep health and suggests ways to improve your overall sleep health.

Best for Relieving Tension — AS3 by Amerisleep

Highlights:

  • zoned HIVE transition layer to guarantee targeted support;
  • open-cell comfort foam to prevent sleeping hot;
  • multi-layer foam design for a perfect balance between cradling and weight distribution.

The third model that deserves to be among the best Tempurpedic alternatives is the AS3 by Amerisleep. This mattress is able to deliver close conforming and effective pressure relief thanks to the cradling foam that it uses. To tell the truth, I felt the same when sleeping on the AS3 after the Tempurpedic, as both models are great at relieving tension.

However, the AS3 does a bit more than that. For example, this Amerisleep mattress uses plant-based Bio-Pur foam. It is breathable and sleeps cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses (including many of the Tempurpedic models). Even as a side sleeper who typically experiences more sinkage, I did not have to deal with night sweats when testing the AS3.

Best for Partnered Sleepers — Winkbed

Check Current Price FATHER'S DAY SALE! SAVE $300 ON YOUR MATTRESS!

Highlights:

  • four firmness options to accommodate all types of sleepers and different weight categories;
  • extended warranty for increased customer protection;
  • hybrid design with a thick pillow-top to achieve a balanced feel.

The Winkbed mattress is a hybrid mattress with a thick memory foam top, making it a worthy Tempurpedic alternative. And because it’s a hybrid, this mattress does well to bear the weight of partnered sleepers, making each person feel relaxed and comfortable. And the best part is, this mattress can potentially satisfy any user. It comes in 4 comfort variations and would work for virtually all weight groups and sleep positions. Even some of the mattresses on this list cannot boast of something like that (take the Puffy, for example).

It gets better:

The Winkbed mattress has strong edges (unlike most all-foam models, including Tempurpedic). Therefore, this mattress can offer more legroom for you and your partner. Plus, strong edges may give you a little boost when getting out of bed, which can come in handy if you're dealing with pain or slightly limited mobility.

Reasons Behind Tempurpedic’s Popularity

If you try to count decent Tempurpedic alternatives, you’ll run out of fingers on both of your hands because there are so many of them.

But why do so many manufacturers try to outscore this brand?

The answer is pretty simple: because Tempurpedic has set the high standards of what a good mattress should be.

Here’s how they did it:

  • By using high-quality materials. Of course, many mattress brands choose this path today, but Tempurpedic put the quality to a whole new level by utilizing the proprietary materials and carefully combining them for the highest effectiveness.
  • By properly addressing most common memory foam issues. Memory foam is the most common material in Tempurpedic beds, but it does have some drawbacks, such as potential odors, heat retention, etc. (1) Tempurpedic managed to solve these issues, so their users get to know only the good side of their beds.
  • By listening to customers’ needs. Tempurpedic has a broad line-up, and each user can choose the mattress according to their needs and health issues.

The drawback of all this beauty is obvious:

The price.

You won’t find a mattress cheaper than $1,000 in Tempurpedic’s line-up. And that’s just for the basic construction. If you’re willing to get something tailored to your needs, prepare to spend much more.

That’s why so many brands today are inspired by Tempurpedic’s high standards and are trying to offer something similar at a cheaper price.

Browsing Through Tempurpedic’s Alternatives: Things to Keep in Mind

When it comes to choosing a quality Tempurpedic alternative, your comfort is the only thing that matters.

Here are the general recommendations on what to look for in a comfortable mattress.

Mattress Type

Even though Tempurpedic is focused on making solely foam mattresses, this doesn’t mean that you cannot find decent alternatives among other mattress types:

  • Hybrid. After foam models, these are the closest alternatives in terms of feel. The reason is that most hybrids today use foam for their comfort layers, which means that you can still enjoy all the benefits of this material. However, the base support layers are usually made of coils, which adds more breathability and responsiveness to balance out the foam’s sinking feel.
  • Latex. Natural latex is denser and heavier than memory foam but it sleeps cooler because of its open-cell structure. Plus, higher responsiveness makes latex beds a better pick for those who move a lot while sleeping (2). Also, latex is a renewable material and can be 100% organic, so it may work for eco-conscious users. And even though latex models are usually the priciest on the market, they can still be cheaper than Tempurpedic mattresses.
  • Innerspring. Innerspring mattresses are the least similar to Tempurpedic beds, but they can make a good pick for heavy users or those who need a uniform surface with minimal sinkage.

Note that no matter which mattress type you choose, it’s always advisable to check the brand’s history on the market and look for reviews from actual users.

Firmness

Firmness is subjective, but it’s one of the essentials for your comfortable sleep. Here’s how to choose the perfect firmness for you:

  • Soft. A soft mattress offers you pronounced sinkage and conforms very closely to your body. It makes a great pick for side sleepers of small body composition.
  • Medium. Medium and medium-firm mattresses are the optimal pick for most users without chronic health issues. They offer a balance between firm support and pressure relief and and can work great for back sleepers or heavier side sleepers. Studies also support the evidence that mattresses with medium and medium-firm feel may be beneficial for people with lower back pain (3), so if this is your case, be sure to give them a try.
  • Firm. Firm mattresses have a floating feel and offer little to no sinkage. They can support a larger weight without sagging, so heavier users will feel more comfortable on them. Also, it may be a good pick for stomach sleepers who need to avoid excessive curvature in their lower back.

Other Aspects That Make a Good Tempurpedic Alternative

Now when you know what firmness you should look for and what mattress types you have to choose from, you may want to direct your attention to a couple of details. These are the aspects that can be real deal-breakers. That’s why it’s crucial to consider them when shopping for a good Tempurpedic alternative:

  • Cooling. If you often overheat during the night, you need to choose a mattress that won’t trap your body heat. Hybrid and latex models usually perform the best in this scenario. As for memory foam mattresses, give your preference to those models that use open-cell or gel-infused foam. This way, their notorious ability to accommodate heat will be balanced out.
  • Motion isolation. If you share your bed with a significant other, you should not neglect motion isolation. Typically, foam and latex mattresses absorb shock from motion very effectively. If you are thinking about getting a hybrid bed with a bouncy support system, make sure that it uses extra-thick comfort layers that would “take the brunt” when one of you moves on top.
  • Sleep trial. Now, most mattress companies offer an in-home sleep trial, including Tempurpedic. However, with the latter, you will have to pay a return shipping fee. That’s not an ideal scenario, which is why you might want to read carefully the sleep trial conditions when picking your Tempurpedic alternative. The good news is, most of them offer free returns. But being careful won’t hurt anyway.
  • Ease of movement. Most sleepers hate feeling stuck in their mattress (which often happens with memory foam). This would also be a drawback for sexual activities. That’s why hybrids usually beat memory foam mattresses when it comes to ease of movement. Now, latex can be a good compromise as it offers close conforming but responds fast to applied pressure and doesn't restrict movement.
  • Durability. Even though many Tempurpedic alternatives are cheaper than this brand, you probably still want your investment to be a long-lasting one. Keep in mind that dense foam is more durable than its cheaper low-density “siblings”. When looking through hybrid mattresses, pay attention to the coil gauge: the lower it is, the thicker (and more durable) the coils are. As for latex, it’s the ultimate winner in this case, as this material has an impressive lifespan.

Conclusion

Today, many major brands can offer you a decent Tempurpedic alternative, so there’s no need to chase the well-known brand.

The main ingredients of a good Tempurpedic alternative are high-quality materials, a good cradling and pressure-relieving effect, solid spinal support, and effective heat removal. Altogether, these qualities will ensure a sound and cool sleep. And the best thing is, there are options that combine all of these with a lower price, so you’ll also get a cheaper alternative.

However, if you still can’t decide on what choice you’ll be making, let me recommend the Cocoon Chill Hybrid to you. It is a hybrid mattress built for durability and user comfort at the utmost level. The mattress’ firmness level adapts and contours to your body while its phase-change material ensures your cool night's rest. And to top it all off, although more budget-friendly than other models on this list, it’s not inferior.
