The Zoma is my best budget mattress for osteoporosis as it has a competitive price point, a removable cover, and isolates motion quite well. The Zoma is priced $400 cheaper than the Nectar Premier, $700 cheaper than the Puffy, $500 cheaper than the Cocoon Chill Hybrid, and $900 cheaper than the Winkbed, but its 4 inches of comfort layers feel similar to the Puffy, giving you that adaptive body cradling that may help ease the symptoms of osteoporosis.
The Zoma’s Reactiv™ layer also does an excellent job of isolating motion, which can help you from feeling jostled by a restless partner, which may trigger osteoporosis symptoms. Based on my review, the Zoma’s top layers bounce back from compressions after 0.8 seconds, faster than the Puffy by 0.9 seconds. That means Puffy may feel more slow-adaptive, but you save $700 between the models, and Zoma’s 0.8 seconds is still reasonable for isolating most motion.
The removable cover is also a feature worth mentioning, as I find this gives peace of mind in case of accidental spills, as a simple wash can make your bed more fresh and comfortable.
What I Don’t Like About This Mattress

The Puffy Mattress is my best memory foam mattress for osteoporosis due to its Cooling Cloud Foam layer, motion isolation, and removable cover. I’ve tested Puffy, and can confirm its top layers, such as the Cooling Cloud Foam layer, provide excellent, body-hugging pressure relief. While lying on my side, I could feel my shoulders and hips gently cradled in cushioning memory foam. The motion isolation feature of this bed is also quite effective, as when I tested this, I noticed motion didn’t travel much from one side of the bed to the other. That means if you have osteoporosis and feel pain from every bump your partner makes, this mattress may be able to help reduce that.
Another feature I think is worth mentioning is Puffy’s removable cover. It’s made of polyester and lycra but is thin enough to be breathable. Unlike Cocoon, which doesn’t specify if its cover is resistant to the elements, Puffy’s is. Not only is it resistant, but the cover can be easily washed by removing it at the zippers, helping keep your mattress fresh without hassle.

The WinkBed is my best hybrid mattress for osteoporosis for its zoned support system, Tencel® cover, and edge support. I’ve had the opportunity to test WinkBed’s Luxury Firm in person and found it provides a good balance between conformity and support, which is good news if you have osteoporosis. I was most comfortable on my back, where the mattress let my hips and thighs sink into the layers a bit for extra pressure relief. On my side, I found I was still comfortable with moderate cradling; however, it wasn’t as cradling as, say, the Puffy. WinkBed accomplishes this ‘on top of the bed’ feel with zoned support coils, where each coil has a different strength, meaning your hips will be supported more than, say, your lower legs. In addition, I noticed the mattress had great edge support, even giving me a little boost from sitting to a standing position while on the edge. This can help if you struggle with moving in and out of bed unassisted.

Our methodology - Why I Picked These Mattresses

Then I lied on the mattress in different sleeping positions, such as my back and side, confirming whether or not the mattress could re-distribute my weight, and how comfortable I felt. I also checked for sinkage levels by measuring compressions my body would make, as this contributes to the overall comfort feel. Motion isolation was also tested using a glass of water and different levels of compression tests, measuring if the glass would move. This would indicate if the mattress was a good fit for partnered sleep. The best type of mattresses for osteoporosis is actually somewhat similar to mattresses for someone over 300 pounds, as both require extra support to ensure the spine is as neutral as possible. This is done with lumbar technology, with the mattress using extra padding or stronger coils where the lumber of your back is, ensuring your spine stays in alignment. Lumbar technology helps decrease pressure in sensitive areas of the body, promoting a healthier spine (3).
Another useful feature, similar to mattresses for arthritis and beds for a restless partner, is how motion-isolating it is. Isolating motion can help reduce the jostling and bumps that can happen during the night from an active partner, which, if not muffled, could cause excessive movement, triggering osteopathic and arthritic pain responses.
