Highlights

  • roomy storage drawers;
  • very easy to assemble;
  • sleek design.

I will start my review of the best bed frames for a memory foam mattress with this incredible model by DHP. This bed frame has it all, and by ‘all’ I mean spacious storage, sturdy construction, and good-looking design.

The Dakota frame combines wooden slats and strong metal perimeter. It will add some sturdiness to the edges and prevent premature sagging of your memory foam mattress. Also, wooden slats have some grip, so your mattress won’t slide.

The headboard and footboard not only make the bed frame look nice but also add some comfort and keep your mattress in place.

The Dakota features four spacious drawers (2 per side) where you can store your bedding and other things, so it can make a great purchase for owners of small bedrooms.

Overall, I think this bed frame is one of the best models you can find. It’s sturdy, looks good, and will support your mattress for years.

Highlights

  • 14 inches of under-bed space;
  • features foam padding for noise-free sleep;
  • minimalistic design.

The next item on my list is for those who want a functional solution. The Olivia by Zinus features a whopping 14 inches of under-bed space, which you can use for your needs.

Aside from that, this bed frame can support your mattress really well: the wooden slats ensure an even surface and add some responsiveness if your bed lacks that. The firm metal perimeter will add some sturdiness so your mattress won’t sag next time you decide to snooze closer to the edge.

The Olivia also comes with foam padding and non-slip tape to prevent the bed from making noise and the mattress from moving during your shut-eye. So, if you’re a sensitive sleeper or share a bed with someone who tosses and turns a lot, this bed frame can help you finally get your deserved peaceful sleep.

I really enjoyed testing this bed frame. It upgraded the feel of my memory foam mattress that started to get softer, so if this is what you’re looking for, I definitely recommend you take a look at this model.

Best for Heavy-Duty Construction - 45MinST

Highlights

  • 3,500-lbs weight capacity;
  • reinforced steel construction;
  • compatible with headboards;
  • noiseless.

The next option in my review of the best bed frames for a memory foam mattress is for those who are looking for a heavy-duty item. The model by 45MinSt has a weight limit of 3,500 lbs, which means it can perfectly suit heavy sleepers and couples, ensuring great support for years.

The 45MinSt is an all-metal frame with reinforced construction. It has more rigid corners, which prevents wobbling and instability, and additional central legs for more uniform support.

Also, with this bed frame, you can be sure that your mattress will stay in place. The slats are placed 1.4” below the outer frame, so your mattress will stay fixed instead of wandering around while you’re changing positions.

Finally, the frame is completely noise-free. Each slat has a cushioning gasket on both sides that prevents it from squeaking or rattling.

Overall, I think that the 45MinSt is a heavy-duty bed frame that will work even for bulky mattresses and heavy sleepers. It will boost the supportive effects of your memory foam mattress and prolong its lifespan.

Best Low-Profile Pick - MellowMellow

Highlights

  • great for a high-profile mattress;
  • has rounded corners for safety;
  • easy to assemble.

I included the Mellow frame in my selection because of the combination of minimalistic design and low-profile construction it offers. You probably know that if you have a thick mattress and pair it with a high-profile bed frame, your bed might turn out awkwardly high. And this is what low-profile beds are for.

However, the 9-inch height isn’t the only useful feature of this bed frame. The Mellow has an all-steel construction, meaning it’s strong and sturdy. The slats are spaced at about 7 inches wide and work pretty well with most memory foam beds, including softer ones.

Despite quite a lot of parts, the frame won’t take more than 30-40 minutes to assemble. The manual is pretty straightforward and all the bolts and nuts are included.

I also love that the manufacturer made the frame with rounded corners, so you won’t accidentally hurt yourself.

To sum it up, the Mellow is a great low-profile bed frame for a memory foam mattress. It seems durable, offers uniform support, and doesn’t make annoying noises.

Best Affordable - Zinus WenZinus Wen

Highlights

  • great value for money;
  • noise-free design;
  • easy to assemble.

And the last option in my review of the best bed frames for a memory foam mattress is also the most affordable one, so if you’re looking for a budget-friendly foundation, I recommend you pay attention to this model. The Zinus Wen is an all-wooden frame with a rustic design and some impressive features that make it no worse than expensive models.

So, the wide wooden slats are spaced 2-2.5 inches apart, which creates a uniform surface for any memory foam mattress while allowing the air to circulate freely.

The 12-inch height will make a perfect combo with any mattress without making your bed too high and difficult to get in and out of. The wooden slats will also hold your mattress in place and won’t allow it to slide as you move. However, you can also add a non-slip tape, which is included in the kit, if you feel that the grip isn’t too tight for you.

Speaking of assembly, it’s fairly simple, and you do not need any tools except the ones that are already included. The process took me about an hour, and once it’s done, it’s a really sturdy bed frame.

So, I think that the Wen is a really great cost-efficient bed frame. It’s sturdy, noiseless, and doesn’t make your mattress slide.

What Makes a Good Bed Frame for a Memory Foam Mattress?

What Makes a Good Bed Frame for a Memory Foam Mattress

So, is a bed frame for a memory foam mattress different from other types of bed foundations?

Well, not exactly.

But there still are some factors that make a bed frame either a good or a bad pick for a memory foam mattress. And I’ll list them for you below.

Materials

All the bed frames today can be made of wood, metal, or both. Let’s see how each of these materials will work with a memory foam mattress.

  • Wood. Wooden bed frames have rustic design and can withstand years of active use. However, wide wooden slats can block the airflow and make your mattress more prone to hot sleeping and mold development.
  • Metal. Metal bed frames are more durable and sturdy than all-wooden options. But the metal slats are usually thinner, and if you have a soft memory foam mattress or are on the heavier side, you might feel them during sleep.
  • Composite. These are the most advanced ones. Combining bouncy wooden slats and a sturdy metal perimeter, they can help you deal with two main issues of memory foam beds: weak edges and sagging.

Weight Capacity and Dimensions

A quality bed frame for a memory foam mattress should hold the combined weight of you, your bedmate, and the mattress.

Note that some memory foam mattresses are really bulky.

So, I recommend looking for bed frames with a weight limit of 600 lbs minimum. This should be enough to hold an average couple.

Speaking of other dimensions, you should focus on getting a bed of a comfortable height. So, if your mattress is thick, choose a low-profile bed frame and vice versa.

Slat Spacing

The spacing between slats is an important factor, especially if you plan to use your bed frame with a memory foam bed.

Memory foam is resilient and elastic, and it conforms to the surrounding shapes and surfaces. So, if the spacing between the slats is too wide, it may result in uneven support and premature sagging.

According to my experience, the best slat spacing for a memory foam bed is 5-6 inches apart. Yet, if you choose a firmer bed with a dense foam base, you may even go with wider spaces.

Noise-Free Design

Quiet design is a must for any bed foundation.

Because no one wants to hear annoying squeaks every time they change positions.

The good thing is, you can easily find a frame with tightly welded joints or foam padding, which will prevent noises. Plus, some manufacturers install furniture pads on the frames’ legs.

If you look for a bed frame with a really noiseless design, I recommend you check my guide on sex-friendly bed frames. Staying quiet is one of the most important things that make a frame good for sex.

Conclusion

So, you now have 5 great products to pair with your memory foam mattress. They’re supportive, allow for air circulation underneath the mattress, and will serve you for years. My favorite among the five is probably the Dakota by DHP. I love that this bed frame comes with a headboard and a footboard, and has large drawers you can use for storage. I also loved that the Dakota made my mattress feel a bit bouncier and gave it sturdier edges. What is your definition of a good bed frame for a memory foam bed?
